Manchester Based Bassoonist
Ensembles
Will is part of two very exciting ensembles at the RNCM, both performing varied repertoire with talented members and highly skilled individual players, more information below.
Solar Winds
Solar Winds are an upcoming and exciting wind quintet based in Manchester. Comprising of five members across the UK and Ireland, the group formed in 2019 and has gone from strength to strength, developing their own unique voice and sound in the chamber music world. As well as performing traditional wig quintet repertoire, their interests in 20th century and new music is also prominent, working with new composers promoting the need for variety and diversity of style in concerts.
The group are regularly coached by Rob Buckland and Laura Jellicoe along with many other tutors inside and outside the RNCM, constantly working on their sound and ensemble skills. They are hoping to expand into outreach work and participate once more for the Christopher Rowland and John Fewkes Chamber Music prizes while continuing to perform across the country.
Reed Quintet
Will is also part of a newly formed reed quintet at the RNCM after being inspired by the recordings and performances of the Calefax Quintet. This group is regularly coached by Laura Jellicoe and Rob Buckland and have enormously improved as an ensemble since their formation in September 2020. Although the repertoire for the reed quintet is fairly limited at the moment, each member of the group are highly skilled arrangers with interests in various styles of music hoping the change the concept of sound for the instruments by both blending and contrasting.
